Tampered Traps – Wildlife Problems in Preble County, OH

People want to save the world, but for some reason they thing that interfering with our trapping is one way to do that.  It’s almost unbelievable the lengths they’ll go to, to try and ‘protect’ the animals we’re hired to catch.  I’m sure it seems very noble but in a lot of cases they’re doing more harm than good.  We have lost plenty of traps and equipment on jobs – not to mention the time – and often time’s people don’t know how to work the traps so they end up ruining them and in some cases even injuring the animal.

But human’s aren’t always the only problem sometimes animals also will damage traps in an attempt to, well, kill the animal inside.  There’s nothing we can really do about it, it’s just the circle of life.  For example raccoons will see pigeons in traps and try to get into the cage to get the birds; or hawks will swoop down at squirrels in cages, it’s just what animals do.  And while we do our best to prevent it and to set the traps in low profile areas, we also have to put them in areas where the target animals are most likely to use them.  Needless to say, we’ve lost a lot of equipment to all sorts of animals, even the human ones.

Wildlife Removal Services removes all sorts of wild animals and birds from residential and commercial properties, including bats, snakes, pigeons, skunks, raccoons, swallows, woodpeckers, voles, beavers, and rodents of every kind. Wild animals on your property can damage vegetation and structures and reduce property value. They also bring disease and a host of insect pests with them, which can adversely affect you, your family, and your pets. In your walls, in your attic, or on your roof wild animals can keep you up at night and their urine and droppings create a horrific smell. After my technicians and I perform wild animal removal, we can provide cleanup, sanitization, and deodorization to help restore your property; we can also provide exclusion services to keep your wildlife problem from recurring. Whether the problem is a colony of bats in a building, raccoons in the attic, or destructive behaviors of critters such as squirrels, gophers and pigeons, we can solve it.

We resolve many types of wildlife control conflicts in Preble County and surrounding areas. Give me a call if you need expert animal removal and/or live wildlife trapping. We can also perform an inspection of your property to evaluate the problem.

The situations we resolve and main trapping and removal services we provide are: raccoon families in attics and chimneys, woodpeckers drilling siding. mud swallow nests on stucco, rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics, voles and gophers destroying lawns, skunks stealing pet food, bat infestations, and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.

Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their commotion and smell. Raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake; baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds; skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system? We have seen much, much more than these problems, but that is a general idea of the kinds of problems that I and my professional wildlife removal operators are prepared to solve.

Not only do my technicians and I trap and remove problem wild animals, we do a lot of other dirty work, too. Don’t hesitate to call us for dead animal removal, bat guano cleanup, pigeon waste removal, mouse dropping cleanup, decontamination, repairs, above ground and below ground rodent slick fencing, odor control for skunk spray, and the like. We are a full service pest control company with a wide range of animal control solutions.

The Close Calls

Working in wildlife can be a dangerous job, you never know exactly what you’re going to encounter where.  You could be searching for a squirrel nest and instead find a mother raccoon and her kits; or you can be setting gopher traps and find an unbelievably large snake, the possibilities are endless. The trappers in our company have seen quite a lot, and have had some close calls with wild animals.  Here’s a few stories.

I got called to a home where the owner suspected a squirrel or raccoon had been nesting inside of his gardening shed.  She asked if I’d take a look, and since it’s my job I happily obliged.  Looking back at the situation, I know I should have approached it much more cautiously, but I was a little too sure of myself and so I moved hastily.  I went in with a catch-pole and a trap, as ready as I thought I could be for whatever I would find.  What I was not expecting was for the mother raccoon to jump from the rafters onto my head.  I instinctively dropped the trap the second I heard the angry noises she was making, and luckily I was able to knock it off of my head fairly easily and then snatch it in the catch pole.  I ended up removing two small kits as well (which explains the aggression from the mother), but it was still a scary experience.

We had one technician that was setting up raccoon traps and was pounced on by a feral cat.  He left that battle with several scratches and one or two bites.  We sent him to the hospital for tetanus shots and a little sterilization.  Everything turned out well on that job.  About two months ago my cousin was doing a bat inspection when he had a scary little run in.  He was inspecting along the roofline and came across a small gap, which he stuck his bare hand into trying to see if it led into a larger hole.  When he pulled his hand out, there was a small bat latched on to the end of his middle finger.  And apparently while I was worried about the shots and vaccines he needed, he was just worried about losing his job over the little slip up.  Good news is he didn’t lost his job, he didn’t get rabies, and he also has never done a bat inspection (or any other inspection) bare handed since that day.
